Renosu kept for Flemington assault

Godolphin galloper Renosu has remained in Melbourne for a straight race at Flemington

A liking for the straight track at Flemington swayed the decision of James Cummings and Godolphin to keep Renosu in Melbourne.

The Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville last Saturday had been considered for Renosu who instead was given an easy time in a jump-out at Flemington.

That jump-out was in preparation for the 3AW Sprint (1100m) on Saturday where three-year-old Renosu takes on the older sprinters.

But in Renosu's corner is his form at Flemington that includes a win and two seconds from four starts on the straight course.

One of those victories was during the Melbourne Cup Carnival where Renosu was explosive in winning over 1000m.

"We thought about stepping him out over six furlongs (1200m) in the Tobin Bronze, but we've kept him fresh for this race," Cummings told RSN.

"Then if we want to stretch him a little bit in a couple of runs time, there is the (Listed) Creswick Stakes over six furlongs which will give him the opportunity to do it up the straight again which he loves so much.

"He's going well and coming back to the straight where he goes so well, is ideal and the nice tick over jump-out he had last week was quite pleasing."

Renosu finished second in the 800m jump-out at Flemington last Friday which followed a trip to Adelaide when fourth to I'Mlovin'Ya in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.

At his previous outing, Renosu had finished second to the smart What You Need in the Listed Sunlight Classic (1100m) at Flemington.

Cummings said the main opposition to Renosu on Saturday were the emergencies – Fasuto, Treporti and Outback Action.

"We're hoping those stables don't get phone calls advising their horses have gained a start," Cummings joked.

Unfortunately for Cummings and Godolphin, Kentucky Casanova has been withdrawn, paving the way for Fasuto to take his place.
