Raquel Reid aiming high with Eeyore Wayz

Posted by RS NewsWire at 11:53am on July 6th

Eeyore Wayz resumes racing on Saturday in what trainer Raquel Reid describes as a defining campaign for the six-year-old.

Reid is aiming high and hopes the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) is the first big step towards the Ascot Pinnacles carnival later this year.

“At this stage I cannot fault him,” Reid said to The Races WA.

“I was questioning of going into a trial first, but at this stage of his career and where we want to head to with out plans, every race counts.

“Saturday is his starting point and there are a few more races after that we have mapped out to consider.

“Every race has to count now.

“He does go well fresh over 1000m and has done it previously, but as he’s got older and in his previous preparations I just think there might be sharper horses out there.

“He’ll strip fitter for the run for sure.”

Eeyore Wayz has won seven races for Mundijong-based Reid, earning a touch over $330,000 in prizemoney.

His best results to date are a second placing in the Northam Cup (1600m) and a third in the Farnley Stakes (1400m).

Eeyore Wayz has two wins and a third from six first-up attempts and from 14 goes on soft ground he’s finished top three eight times.

Reid believes the best is still to come for Eeyore Wayz. After a winter campaign she is daring to dream big.

“The Railway is our plan,” Reid said.

“I’m reaching for the stars.

“He’s capable, I know he’s capable.

“I’ve just got to keep on top of niggly issues that he’s got.

“If they flare up again he’s campaign could be over.

“But I have faith in myself and faith in my horse that we can achieve the goals that we are setting ourselves for.”

The Beaufine Stakes has attracted 10 acceptors. Eeyore Wayz, to be ridden by Craig Staples, has barrier four.

The $1.5 million Railway Stakes (1600m) is run at Ascot on November 25.
