G1 winner Western Empire put up for sale
Western Empire, the winner of the Railway Stakes, is set to be placed up for online auction this coming Wednesday.
Now six years old, the Group 1 champion has had seven wins and won over $1.5 million in prize money. Western Empire, owned by Peters Investments, achieved a remarkable feat as a three-year-old, securing three consecutive stakes race wins that culminated in his impressive G2 WATC Derby victory over 2400 meters during that campaign. His winning streak carried into the spring of 2021, where he came close to achieving back-to-back G1 wins. However, he was narrowly defeated by stablemate Regal Power in the Kingston Town Classic, despite starting as the odds-on favourite at $1.20 with online betting agencies, following his Railway Stakes triumph.
The son of Iffraaj later transitioned to trainers Danny O’Brien and, subsequently, John Leek (Jnr). In his most recent outing, Western Empire finished 12th in the Memsie Stakes, where he started at $201.
