Peter Moody reinvests in family he knows well

Peter Moody reinvested in a family he has not only had success with, but great faith in when he went to $650,000 for a daughter of Snitzel on Day 1 of this year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

The filly is out of the Lonhro mare Charleston Dancer, whose only foal to race is She Dances, a daughter of Street Boss that Moody and co-trainer Katherine Coleman prepared to win the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes and Listed Chautauqua Stakes last spring.

The $650,000 filly is the third foal from Charleston Dancer, who is out of Group 2 winner and Futurity Stakes runner-up Innovation Girl, with Moody and Coleman also being in charge of her second foal, a filly by Snitzel named Bridal Walz who has won two Pakenham jumpouts.

“We’ve obviously got the half-sister in She Dances at home and we’ve got the two-year-old full sister at home, too, who we’ve got a lot of time for,” Moody said.

“So, we’re very pleased to be taking her home. She looks a lovely running filly, typical of the Snitzels, and typical of the family; not overly big but very strong and looks fast.”

Bridal Waltz will carry the orange and green colours of the Pope family, who bred Moody’s $650,000 filly, who also counts Saturday’s brilliant Flemington winner Bold Bastille as a close relation.

Bold Bastille is out of Exceed And Excel mare Chloe In Paris, a half-sister to Charleston Dancer.

“It is a very strong fillies family and the Pope family have been very successful breeders for many decades,” Moody said.

“I’ve only tacked on to the back end of it, so let’s hope I can add to their dynasty.”

The Blue Gum Farm-prepared Snitzel filly gave Moody the two highest-priced lots of Day 1 at Inglis Premier with the top trainer having gone to $525,000 for a daughter of Written Tycoon and Snitzel mare Talented who was offered as the second lot of the day.

A filly by I Am Invincible also got to $650,000 after Moody’s Snitzel filly but was passed in after failing to reach her $675,000 reserve.

Day 2 of the Inglis Premier Sale will be held on Monday, when expected highlight lots include another well-regarded Snitzel filly from Blue Gum Farm (Lot 314), a brother to Peltzer (Lot 395), an Extreme Choice colt out of a sister to Alinghi (Lot 452) and a Zoustar colt who will go through as the final lot of the day.
