Autumn progression has been key for Elphinstone as the daughter of Street Boss notched a career highlight in the VOBIS Platinum Guineas at Caulfield.

Tony Mcevoy is known for his eye for horseflesh and his purchase of this filly for $200,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale has paid dividends with this victory over 1600-metres taking her prizemoney earned beyond $550,000.

Elphinstone ($3.40 favourite) was pushed to the line by jockey Luke Currie and held off the closing challenge of $4.20 second betting site favourite Modown.

“Getting results like these is just what it is all about,” McEvoy said.

“She’s a progressive filly with so much more to come and what a great result today in this race.

“She can be really difficult and today she was better. I think, today, she’s a bit older again (whereas) before she wasn’t quite handling the pressure.”

Elphinstone came to Caulfield following a second placing in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m).

“That was third-up today and I think she’s got more to come (this preparation),” he added.

“We’ll let her do the talking but we’re enjoying her run at the moment.”Elphinstone provided Currie with a third winner in the six races run so far on card.

“Even though she looked awkward, she gave herself a chance in the run to be strong late,” Currie said.
