Venue changes for Melbourne Racing Club meetings

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:42pm on January 15th

The recent fire in the Caulfield grandstand has resulted in the Melbourne Racing Club transferring two of their upcoming meetings.

Following consultation with Racing Victoria, it was agreed to transfer the Caulfield Heath meeting on January 22 to Mornington while the meeting on the main Caulfield track on January 25 has been moved to Sandown.

That Sandown meeting to be run on the Lakeside course will be the first meeting back following a much-needed track renovation that was undertaken in September.

The MRC has confirmed they will also run what was to be their return meeting on January 29.

The Sandown meeting on January 25 will see divisions of the Blue Diamond Preview for the two-year-olds along with W J Adams Stakes and John Dillon Stakes.

Part of the heritage listed Norman Robinson Stand was badly affected by fire and water damage last week and while significant progress has been made, it was felt in the best interests of members and racegoers to transfer the meeting.

“The Melbourne Racing Club is making significant progress in addressing the damage to the Norman Robinson Grandstand and the associated impacts on the Rupert Clarke Grandstand,” the MRC said in a statement.

“The Club is working closely with the local council to meet all necessary requirements to ensure a safe and prompt resumption of racing at Caulfield.

“After careful consultation with Racing Victoria, and with the best interests of our members, industry participants, and racegoers in mind, the Club has made adjustments to upcoming race meetings.

“The Club is committed to keeping everyone updated on our progress as we work tirelessly to complete the necessary repairs and ensure Caulfield Racecourse is safe and operational.”
