Coeur Volante bidding for emotional Coolmore Classic result

Posted by RS NewsWire at 4:45pm on March 13th

Victorian mare Coeur Volante will attempt to secure a sentimental win in the Coolmore Classic, as the stable continues to honor the late Michael Moroney.

The revered Melbourne Cup-winning trainer passed away last month after making a return to racing following illness. His training partner, Glen Thompson, has taken the reins and believes Coeur Volante is primed for a big performance.

“She has taken everything in her stride and has been going super this preparation,” Thompson said.

“Her trip to Queensland last year hardened her up, and she has kept improving with each run.

“She’s always had Group 1 ability, and now she gets the chance to show it.”

Coeur Volante turned heads with a dominant four-length win in the Mannerism Stakes (1400m) last start, but Thompson admits that travel remains the only concern.

“The only thing we don’t know is how she’ll handle the trip,” he said.

“She found it tricky in Queensland, but she’s stronger now and we’re hopeful she travels better this time.”

Kerrin McEvoy, who won his first Melbourne Cup on Moroney’s Brew in 2000, will ride Coeur Volante in the Coolmore Classic (1500m).

The mare has drawn barrier one and is currently a $9.50 chance with betting sites.
